Russell Brand on BBC 6Music montage trailer
Dur: 49"
Produced by Kristian Hansen

I ought to make it clear that I didn't work on the Russell Brand show, although I did manage to get in as a guest once. This is also not a finished trailer by any means - I had intended to pass a polished trailer on to the team via Trevor Lock, but midway through production, a burglary relieved me of my laptop and all the material. This early preview copy was found somewhere, which demonstrates the essence of the piece, but unfortunately it hasn't been mixed in a decent environment, nor has the compressor been adjusted for a more BBC-friendly response, so it isn't a very stable soundscape, still sounds a bit cluttered, and the EQ is atrocious.

I used Live 5 to produce a backing track which combines three different songs, one for each presenter, in a seamless montage, flanked by BBC 6Music jingles. In all, five elements were tonally and rhythmically matched. Adobe Audition was then used to cut in clips from a recent programme. I was pleased with the slightly sycophantic and indulgent inclusion of Peter Cook (taken from Derek and Clive) seemingly speaking Russell's name - Brand is a great admirer of Cook.

ESP - Classic To The Core
Dur: 52"
Produced by Kristian Hansen

In the late 90s, when DAB licenses were first announced, and after the uphill struggle getting your own FM radio station seemed to be, I thought there was finally a chance to open the radio station I really wanted - a sort of classic rock/genius pop fusion, presented with the sort of eerie European production that was around at the time. Unsurprisingly, there wasn't much of a chance, but we did get as far as recording a jingle package and a number of pre-launch trailers which I'm still quite fond of. This is the best of them.

ESP still occassionally rears its head via some form of internet streaming or another.

Top Score
Dur: 1'00
Produced by Kristian Hansen

I recently got hold of a copy of Adobe Audition 2, going cheap as V3 is on it's way out in November. In order to try it out, I knocked up this very quick trailer for an imaginary podcast called Top Score, aimed at songwriters and composers.

You can tell it's been rushed, as the interview clips are not particularly enlightening as teasers, nor is the quality that good as they were borrowed from the internet. It does, however, have some things in its favour - it was designed to provide a 'ramp' from the a quite sedate beginning to a rather frantic ending, for presenters or programmers who wanted a pace change, and fans of The Streets will notice that there are in fact TWO Streets songs posing as one, which added to the 'building tension' effect I was after. As befits a trailer intended for podcasts, it was mixed for headphones.
